Replacing Missing Body Parts
In the case that you have two different versions
of a photo and the one that you want is perfect in every way
(literally) except for someone’s eyes being closed...Photoshop has
an easy fix for this situation.![]() Grab
your clone stamp tool
Now create a new blank layer on the image that
needs the new eyes (or other part). Now make sure that you can see both of the images so you may have to zoom them out. Just Alt//Opt click on the good eye in the document that has what
you want and bring your clone stamper over to right above the closed
eye on the document in progress. Watch the crosshairs of the original location and make sure you
use the right sized brush for the situation. You’ll have to place
the clone (by clicking and moving the brush around and then
releasing) carefully and in the right place. However once you have
pasted/cloned the eye onto this area on the new blank layer you can
work with it like a regular layer. CTrl T for free transform and go ahead and rotate it around if you need to in order to get it in place and you can also nudge it with the arrow keys on the moVe tool.
You can clone the other eye onto the same layer or onto a blank new layer for now and then merge them together later when it is in the right place. This does give you a little more flexibility. Since the position of the other photo may be different, just work on each eye independently, getting a new Alt/source point for each separate one.
You can hide the other palettes to make it easier to see 2
documents side by side by pressing Shift Tab when they are all
visible to only leave your toolbar remaining.
Proper placement is key. Sometimes you might also have to make other adjustments to the layer itself to get it closer to the brightness or color scheme but these photos are fairly identical otherwise.
The result of too much fun. Note that each of those eyes are release clicks so I’m re-cloning the eye several times in different places.
For these it doesn’t matter if you have aligned on or off
Melissa is winking.
Go ahead and link the layers as shown when you have then where you want and it looks natural (if on separate layers) and then Ctrl E to merge them together into one layer of eyes that is directly above the closed eyes.
OFF
ON
Merge this into the background layer if you want by using Ctrl E when the layers are linked together...
Here I'm clicking on the original image at the top of the History palette to see the before and after.
